JR Taylor's passion both to create and to help others create with inspiration & purpose has fostered achievement both as a performing musician and songwriter as well as a producer and engineer.
Moving to Austin to attend the University of Texas as a music major, he met composer/producer, Gary Powell, who became his mentor in the art and business of music. Through this internship-turned full time job, JR developed skills in producing a wide range of musical genres, from classical to jazz to hip-hop to barbershop! Also through Gary's contracts with Walt Disney Records, JR assisted in transferring original hand-written orchestral charts from the most loved classic film scores to a modern digital format, and played instruments and sang on some of their children's songs, one of which ended up on the front of a box of Kellogg's cereal in stores across the nation. All of JRs future work grew out of experiences and relationships formed here.
After a life-changing encounter with the grace and hope of Jesus Christ, JR became involved with the music ministry in his church, Austin Christian Fellowship, where he shortly thereafter began to lead the ministry. His skills in musical direction from his production experience with his love for the ministry helped grow the team to over 30 talented musicians who all volunteer their time to serve and provide excellent music for their weekly church services. JR writes songs for the Church with fellow Austin area worship leader, Jerry Wise as the group, TaylorWise. The title track for their debut album, Restore Us, was featured in the Nov/Dec 2010 edition of Worship Leader Magazine's SongDISCovery. With other songs from the record being used in churches around the world.
His skill as a guitar player has led to playing in the US & Canada with award-winning singer/songwriter, Geoff Moore as well as the opportunity to play, write & record music with Styx rhythm section, bass player Ricky Phillips and Modern Drummer's 2009 #1 Rock Drummer, Todd Sucherman to pitch for a Hollywood film soundtrack. The expressive guitar playing on his latest release, En Plein Air - Things I Think About Between Here & There, Vol. 1, garnered the attention of Carvin Guitars for an endorsement.
His experiences and passion combined with faith and love for his family continue to fuel his musical work. Keep up with what he is working on now and in the future by connecting with JR through the social media links at the top right!
